It is a classic myth, that beauty is a commodity to trade on par with power, riches and intellect. Mary Wollstonecraft writing in the late 1700’s cautioned that if “…strength and usefulness are sacrificed to beauty…like the flowers that are planted in too rich soil… the flaunting leaves, after having pleased a fastidious eye, fade, disregarded on the stalk…” If we use our feminine wiles, “…men will endeavor to sink us still lower, merely to render us alluring objects for a moment…”
